Stretch marks often appear after rapid weight gain or loss. They are unsightly and hard to undo but “why are some women more prone to stretch marks than others?” According to Daily Beauty, “research shows that women with stretch marks have a pronounced deficiency of total DNA and protein in the skin, and they are slower to repair stretch-dependent skin injuries; hence the formation of stretch marks.”
Stretch marks occur when the skin in a certain area is over stretched; the fibers in the dermis (middle layer of skin) tear resulting in the development of stretch marks. Relax, this doesn’t mean all hope is lost! Despite your DNA, stretch marks may actually be prevented. It’s important to keep yourself hydrated and follow these simple tips.
