Interview: Paula Begoun – Beauty Expert

For an honest and objective opinion, Paula’s Choice is the first place I turn for answers concerning cosmetics.  Paula Begoun provides a thoughtful and invaluable analysis of cosmetic and skincare products, and their ingredients.  When I am unsure of an ingredient or the credibility of a product, I look to Paula for the truth.  Although she has her own line, Paula promotes all products that really work.  Her goal is to empower women through information, to help them make the best beauty decisions possible.  Shannon from Makeup Minute and B5 Media was able to interview the infamous beauty expert and well known author of “Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter without Me.”

Interview: Paula BegounYou said (on your website) that Paula’s Choice and your challenging of the cosmetic industry began as a personal quest. Do you now feel like an advocate for all women discerning fact from fiction in product claims?

"It still feels like a personal quest, I find myself wanting to know more all the time. Being an advocate for myself, and having turned that into a business is a wonderful way to earn a living."  View entire interview

Cover Girl: Drew Barrymore

Cover Girl : Drew BarrymoreEver since Mad Love, Drew Barrymore has been one of my favorite actresses.  Her fresh and natural beauty has always been inspiring.  It’s no surprise Proctor & Gamble-owned CoverGirl chose Drew as its newest spokesmodel.

I am honored to be associated with a brand that has been at the forefront of its industry for almost fifty years,” Barrymore said. “CoverGirl has managed to change with the times, yet stay in touch with women of all ages and backgrounds. To be chosen not only as the newest face of CoverGirl, but to be given the opportunity to be a co-creative director of my first TV commercial is truly amazing.

Yes, not only will the actress and filmmaker assume the roll as leading lady in front of the camera, [launching new products for the company], but also behind the camera as co-creative director of her first TV commercial!

Drew will join other celebrities like, Keri Russell, Queen Latifah, Rihanna and Molly Sims on the CoverGirl beauty roster.

“O” No She Didn’t: Oprah’s Magazine Misleads

Oprah’s been named one of the most influential women in the world, on more than one occasion; and her magazine, O, has become like a bible to many of its readers.  Is it possible to get real information about cosmetics from popular women’s magazines; magazines sponsored by the same cosmetics cosmetics companies they review?  According to The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, the article “If Looks Could Kill” by Jolene Edgar, was a misguiding overview of the cosmetics industry.  The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics believes the magazine ignored work done by many respected researchers and only quoted industry-funded scientist.  Jolene Edgar provided O’s readers with skewed representation of cosmetic safety.
