A Brighter Smile… From a Lip Plumper!

NewBeauty.com (by Marci Robin Zitner)A Brighter Smile..From a Lip Plumper
LipFusion was the first lip-plumping gloss I ever tried, so no matter how many others I test out, there’s always a special place in my heart (and on my face) for it. And I recently returned to Fusion Beauty’s famous formula when they introduced a new version of the gloss: Smile Whitening Color Shine.

Now, of course, you don’t actually put this on your teeth (unless you’re that woman who always manages to get lipstick on her teeth when she dares to converse right after application… which is me, unfortunately). Just like the other LipFusion glosses, you apply it generously to your lips, where you’ll feel that subtle sensation that indicates it’s working towards making your lips fuller. But it’s also creating an ideally flattering color contrast between your lips and teeth, minimizing the look of yellowness and maximizing brightness.

Both my fuller-than-before lips and my teeth have just the right amount of pretty shine when I where this updated classic, and I leave the house feeling confident that my mouth is my best feature. (Until I open it, that is.)

Approximately $2 Million of Potentially Harmful “Cosmetic” Eye Product Seized

FDANews.com

FDA Warning "At the request of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Marshals seized today 12,682 applicator tubes of Age Intervention Eyelash, a product that may, in some users, lead to decreased vision. Authorities said the sales value of the seized tubes is approximately $2 million.  "Age Intervention Eyelash is sold and distributed by Jan Marini Skin Research, Inc., of San Jose, Calif.

The FDA considers Age Intervention Eyelash to be an unapproved and misbranded drug because Jan Marini Skin Research has promoted the product to increase eyelash growth. Before a new drug product may be legally marketed, it must be shown to be safe and effective, and approved by FDA.  The agency takes seriously its responsibility to protect Americans from unapproved drugs.

FDA also considers the seized Age Intervention Eyelash to be an adulterated cosmetic.  The product contains bimatoprost, an active ingredient in an FDA-approved drug to treat elevated intraocular pressure (elevated pressure inside the eye).  For patients using the prescription drug, using the Age Intervention Eyelash in addition to the drug may increase the risk of optic nerve damage because the extra dose of bimatoprost may decrease the prescription drug’s effectiveness.  Damage to the optic nerve may lead to decreased vision and possibly blindness." Beauty Find: Talc-Free Eyeshadow for Sensitive Eyes

SheFinds.comBeauty Find: Talc Free Eyeshadow for Sensitive Eyes
If your eyes are sensitive, or easily irritated by eye shadows, and other eye makeup you may have an allergy to talc or mica.  In order to prevent unsightly redness and painful reactions try talk/mica-free cosmetics, or BY142’s Skin Fortifier (just $35) which is like an “Invisible glove for the body”.  Made with dermaseal, a semi-permeable membrane that allows the skin to breath without allowing it to inhale the gross bacteria and pollutants we encounter throughout the day think: public bathrooms, trains, and taxis.  Here is a fabulous find from SheFinds.

“What: Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Eye Shadow

Why: As anyone who wear contact lenses or has sensitive eyes can tell you… eye shadow can look great and feel awful. But Physicians Formula has a talc-free, oil-free, mineral-based line that is perfect for everyone. The sheer, blendable shades go on with a smooth, natural finish that is weightless and crease-resistant. My favorite is the quad, which comes in color-coordinated matte and pearlized shades. The mauve quad did wonders for my baby blues!”

The Review! billy b BEAUTY Paint Brushes

MakeupMinute.comThe Review! billybBEAUTY Paint Brushes

I cannot tell you how excited I was to receive the full set of billy b’s Paint Brushes in the mail yesterday—sooooo excited! Not just because they came from the grand master of all things beauty, but because I am a big pathetic loser when it comes to makeup brushes and I have never splurged on really good ones.  Why? Honestly, I thought all makeup brushes were the same. Obviously (since yesterday) I have realized how absolutely wrong I was.

For makeup brushes I had only been using a blush brush, foundation brush, one eyeshadow brush and another to put on mineral powder as eyeliner. It’s sad but true…I’ve had the same brushes for years and years and they probably cost me less than $10 (ie. cheap and cheesy).

Let me first say that I gently laid them all out on my bathroom countertop.  My 5 year old was watching me and asked, and I’m not kidding, “Mommy? Are those paint brushes?” I then realized how aptly named these brushes were.  Read More of Shannon’s Review

New Product Alert: MAC Painterly Collection

BellaSugar.comNew Product Alert: MAC Painterly Collection

Okay, so I know I sound like I’ve reverted to sixth-grade Bella, but seriously, you guys: This is so cool. MAC has just released a line of new eye shadows called Paint Pots.  The highly pigmented shadows go on creamy, but dry to a vibrant matte or pearlized finish.  You’ll need a makeup brush to apply it, but with these colors, I think it’s worth it!

MAC has also introduced Technakohl (yuk yuk), a mechanical pencil liner, and I’m completely crazy about these Featherette lashes.  Practical? No.  Fabulously fantastical? Absolutely!

IcyBag prevents makeup meltdown

PopGadget.comIcyBag prevents makeup meltdown
Although designed to make "cool storage easy and fashionable" and marketed as "the first multi-use chilled accessory bag," I’m still quite sure that the IcyBag is just a slightly girly cooler slash insulated lunch bag.  Cuter purse-like incarnations of this radical new concept already exist, but this "leave your cosmetics . . . in the car on a hot day" angle has got to be a first.  The $14.99 IcyBag measures 8" x 6" x 2", ships with a freezable gel pack and coordinating nylon pouch, and (lo and behold) can also be used to keep small food items from spoiling.

How Long will my Faux Tan Last?

DailyBeauty.comHow Long will my Faux Tan Last?
You can expect most self-tanners to last about five to seven days.  However, how long your resulting color will last depends on several factors.

The main factor, as you may have guessed, is the quality of the product.  Sometimes, you have to put your money where your tan is if you want it to last longer.

One fade factor you may have not realized, though, is your age.  The older you are, the longer your tan will likely last.  Since younger skin naturally exfoliates faster, tanned skin will slough off more quickly.
