Rosacea Vitamins and Supplements

SkinCareTalks.comRosacea Vitamins and Supplements
Rosacea vitamins and supplements can be very helpful in controlling your symptoms. Long term use of supplements and vitamins can control symptoms over the long term and help prevent future attacks.  Rosacea is characterized as a chronic skin disease that causes small blood vessels to become visible on the face, resulting in redness and swelling of the cheeks, chin, and forehead, bumps or pimples on the face, and itchy or watery eyes.  Since Rosacea is a chronic condition, Rosacea vitamins and supplements should be continued for an indefinite period of time. Vitamins A and B are effective in controlling Rosacea symptoms, but may need to be taken over a period of a month or more before results are noticeable.

Vitamin C, minerals, and fatty acids may be added to your vitamin regimen if necessary. All Rosacea vitamins and supplements can be taken along with any prescription treatments you may use.  Rosacea begins subtly, and you may not realize you have the disease until the symptoms become painful or severe. Taking control of your Rosacea is imperative if you want to control your outbreaks and symptoms over the long term.

The Case Against Liquid Lunches

MenScience.comThe Case Against Liquid Lunches
Everyone knows your body needs hydration for optimal performance, especially during sweaty, summer months.  But a new study might have you reassessing how much beverage you should actually drink.

According to a study performed at Purdue University in Indiana, subjects who "drank" a controlled lunch of specially-prepared liquid test foods ended up consuming more calories than those that ate a solid food-and-water meal.  The study concluded: All three groups consumed the most total calories on days when a meal supplement was liquid (be it milk, watermelon juice or coconut milk), consuming 12 percent to 20 percent more calories than on solid-food days.  Professor Wayne Campbell says that prior studies have measured feelings of hunger but it has been "a leap of faith to believe that feelings of hunger correspond to the amount of calories consumed."  This experiment stands out, he says, because calorie intake was directly measured—revealing that people drinking liquid foods later consumed more calories even though they had reported feeling just as full.  Read More

Caffeine, Exercise May Cut Skin Cancer

Study Shows Caffeine and Exercise Together May Help Kill Some Sun-Damaged Skin Cells:

July 30, 2007 — A cup of coffee after your morning jog may help your skin fight the damaging effects of the sun and prevent skin cancer.  A new study with mice shows the combination of caffeine and regular exercise appears to help kill some of the precancerous cells damaged by the sun’s ultraviolet-B (UVB) radiation.  The sun-protective effect of this caffeine-exercise combination is still no excuse to skimp on the sunscreen. But researchers say the two may work together to prevent skin cancer better than either element alone.

"We need to dig deeper into how the combination of caffeine and exercise is exerting its influence at the cellular and molecular levels, identifying the underlying mechanisms," says researcher Allan Conney, director of Rutgers University’s Cullman Laboratory, in a news release. "With an understanding of these mechanisms we can then take this to the next level, going beyond mice in the lab to human trials.  Read More

Does Dairy Consumption Affect Acne?

Does Dairy Consumption Affect Acne? What’s that old saying? Oh yeah—“you are what you eat.”  Some would disagree but others say—maybe.  I have read a lot lately about how eating certain foods may directly affect the condition of your skin.  Well, it makes sense, but is it true?  Many conventional dermatologists would say, the foods you eat do not directly affect your skin–unless of course, you were to smear the food all over your face.  However, the younger generation of dermatologists tend to lean toward the possibility that certain foods do in fact trigger inflammation of acne and even rosacea.

Prevention of Skin Cancer Never Tasted So Good

Prevention of Skin Cancer Never Taste so GoodWe all love the sun, but it’s more of a love/hate relationship.  We love the golden tan the sun provides, but we hate the wrinkles and age spots.  Even worse, excessive sun exposure can be life threatening.  It’s responsible for over a million new cases of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers every year.

Aside from a healthy snack, grape seed has been used as an anti-aging ingredient [against free radicals] in many beauty products, but a recent study has shown chemicals found in grape seeds may also help prevent skin cancer.  Researchers at the University of Alabama exposed hairless mice to ultraviolet rays in order to determine whether the presence of grape seed proanthocyanidins (GSP) in the diet affects the skin’s reaction to sunlight.

“Inside Out”: Foods for Fabulous Skin

As we all know [though many of us deny] what goes into our bodies is just as important as what we put on them.  We can’t expect our miracle creams to work, well…miracles without a healthy lifestyle.   A healthy diet is one of the best ways to have and keep great skin.  It takes a great deal of discipline to eat right.

Lisa Kovalovich wrote a great article emphasizing the importance of “8 nutrients to keep you glowing healthy.”  It’s is not an overwhelming list of impossibly complicated recipes.  She included the “Look-Amazing Menu” by Sara Ryba RD, CDN, a nutritionist with a private practice in New York.  The menu focuses on foods such as; salmon, flaxseed and avocado (providing omega-3) which reduces inflammation in the body and helps diminish the appearance of puffy eyes, fine lines and sagging skin. Pomegranate is also a great source of omega-3 and may be a fun treat [its all about the seeds].  The article also points out that fruits like berries and melon will help to firm your skin but high-sugar fruits [and other sugary foods] may cause a hormonal reaction due to increased of blood-sugar levels, and we know what that means…blemishes!  Focus on these 8 nutrients and you may be on your way to healthier skin.  Here are a couple of recipes [ Via Self.com ]
