Study Shows Caffeine and Exercise Together May Help Kill Some Sun-Damaged Skin Cells:

July 30, 2007 — A cup of coffee after your morning jog may help your skin fight the damaging effects of the sun and prevent skin cancer.  A new study with mice shows the combination of caffeine and regular exercise appears to help kill some of the precancerous cells damaged by the sun’s ultraviolet-B (UVB) radiation.  The sun-protective effect of this caffeine-exercise combination is still no excuse to skimp on the sunscreen. But researchers say the two may work together to prevent skin cancer better than either element alone.

"We need to dig deeper into how the combination of caffeine and exercise is exerting its influence at the cellular and molecular levels, identifying the underlying mechanisms," says researcher Allan Conney, director of Rutgers University’s Cullman Laboratory, in a news release. "With an understanding of these mechanisms we can then take this to the next level, going beyond mice in the lab to human trials.  Read More

The Cellubike: Melts Away Cellulite

This is pretty funny!  Kiss and Makeup found this cellulite zapping miracle bike!  Here’s what they said about it: “Get into this rather ominous contraption and you won’t be beamed up, but if the claims are true (Kiss and Makeup is dubious) pedal away and you can wave your cellulite goodbye. It’s well known that exercise is a good way to rid yourself of some of your orange peel, but the Cellubike combines this with infrared lights to bake your legs smooth (or something). And how do they prove this works? With naked before and after pictures of course.”

Exercise Your Skin

Exercise Your Skin

Naturally, when you think of exercise you think of losing weight and getting toned.  However, there’s another organ that benifits from excercise, and you may not even know it — your skin.

"It’s no secret that exercise has important benefits for the entire body. But what many people don’t realize is that our skin is the largest organ of our body, and thus, the benefits can be enormous," says Audrey Kunin, MD and dermatologist.

According to WebMD, increased circulation through exercise delivers oxygen and nutrients to skin cells more effectively, while flushing harmful toxins out.  Also, exercise will create the ideal environment within the body to optimize collagen production.  Yes, collagen production.  As you may or may not know, collagen is produced in the dermis [second layer of skin] and acts as the skin’s support structure.  As collagen production decreases, wrinkles on the surface of the skin become deeper.
